The film

A film its community built

Bubbles is written and directed by Peter Watkins-Hughes. It comes from a BAFTA Cymru-winning team — producer Andrew Jenkins and director Peter Watkins-Hughes, whose comedy A Bit of Tom Jones? won Best Film at the 2010 BAFTA Cymru awards.

Their earlier road-safety film Cow (BAFTA Cymru Best Short Film, 2009) was viewed over a million times within days and featured on NBC's Today Show and CBS News, sparking a national conversation in the US about texting and driving.

More than £32,000 has already been raised — through GoFundMe, direct gifts, and community events including a Pilates class, an Elvis concert, a poetry night and charity nights.

Not a company. A community.

A retired sound engineer came back to work on the film for free — and went on to contribute financially too.

Professional actors worked twelve- to fifteen-hour days for little or no fee.

Local people lent houses, commercial premises, even an aeroplane — the aeroplane sequences you see are there because someone simply offered.

Why this film

It doesn't lecture. It talks.

Male suicide and men's mental health remain serious issues in the UK. Bubbles doesn't lecture. It tells a story — one that gives workplaces, communities, and families a reason, and a way, to talk about something most people find hard to raise.

The ask

A bounded, transparent target

The film's remaining finishing costs are £10,800, including VAT — covering professional sound and dubbing, colour grading, and cinema certification/release-readiness.

Professional sound and dubbing, and colour grading, are being provided at £3,000 + VAT each — discounted from typical industry rates of £9,500 + VAT and £5,000 + VAT respectively.

Including an additional marketing budget of approximately £5,000, the campaign's overall funding target is approximately £15,800.
